Despite a similar e-petition being submitted over 10 years ago,
and considerable subsequent further developments, including housing
and an Aldi store, nothing has been done to improve the safety for
cyclists and pedestrians crossing Allandale Road or Woodthorpe High
Street. Traffic coming from Terry Yardley Way is a particular
concern, as vehicles are often travelling at high speed but fail to
indicate when turning left onto Allandale Road. Regardless of
direction, traffic at this roundabout is very busy especially
during the daytime, and is a major disincentive to pedestrians and
cyclists using the crossings.
I strongly urge the Council to consider applying black and
white-stripe zebra crossing-style markings, together with signage
warning motorists to slow down and beware of pedestrians and
cyclists crossing.
