Members joined the Chairman in congratulating Andrea
Collingridge, a Maternity Social Worker in the Children and Young People's Service, who had become a Member of the Order of the
British Empire in the Birthday Honours list.
The Leader commented that he had written to congratulate Andrea on her award.
He had also written to Mrs Manjula
Sood, formerly Lord Mayor of the Leicester City Council to congratulate her on also receiving an MBE in the recent Birthday Honours.
Awards
The Chairman referred with pleasure to the success of the County Council in having recently achieved a number of awards, as follows:-
Association of Print and Communications Managers
The County Council's in-house printing unit – Central Print – based in Corporate Resources, had won the "Best Full Colour (Litho) Award” in a recent competition.
This was the first time the Authority had entered the competition and followed a large investment in modern equipment.
The Museums and Heritage Award for Excellence – The "Oscars" of the Museums World
The County Council's Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre had recently won this year's Classic Award which was open to any museum, gallery or heritage attraction which had been established
for ten years or more, beating a shortlist of six national attractions which included the Natural History Museum, National Museums Liverpool and Cabinet War Rooms.
This was an outstanding achievement and recognised the vision of the County Council in seeking to provide high quality services to the public.
Police 'Excellence Award'
The County Council's Trading Standards Service had recently received an excellence award in recognition of its contribution to a multi-agency project which targeted the activities of scrap
metal merchants in the light of high prices and the incentives to trade in stolen property and short measure.
As a result of the exercise the Police had made several arrests and a number of cases relating to the receipt of stolen copper cable were pending.
Members joined the Chairman in congratulating all concerned on these well deserved awards.
The Leicestershire-Kilkenny Link
The Chairman drew to members' attention the longstanding friendship link between Leicestershire and Kilkenny.
He had recently visited Kilkenny with Tony Kershaw and David Parsons, and had been treated to a wonderful and warm hospitality by the Kilkenny people.
A number of possible areas for further joint venture had been discussed and Kilkenny County Council was particularly interested in working with the County Council and the East Midlands China Bureau to explore trading links with
Sichuan.
It was understood that the Leader would be following this up as part of his work towards developing trade with
China.
Armed Forces Day
The Chairman reminded members that they had been invited to a special service and parade to be held on Saturday 27 June at St Mary de Castro Church, in
Leicester, to mark Armed Forces Day.
The service would be held jointly with the Lord Mayor of Leicester and the Lord-Lieutenant and he encouraged all members to attend.
